Anyone who was lucky enough to hear James Sera’s 2011 CD, Reality Of The Fantasy, knows about his unique blend of acoustic guitar writing and playing.

In 2016James follows that album with a new CD of all new music called Solo Guitar Vol. 1 – The Brooklyn Years. Subtitled “Observations, Hallucinations & Realizations”, the eight track, 40 minute CD further demonstrates that James Sera is among the great best kept secrets of the acoustic guitar world.

As on his 2016 album, Solo Guitar Vol. 1 – The Brooklyn Years is filled with dreamlike, hypnotic guitar excursions in the spirit of legends such as John Fahey and Leo Kottke with guitar influences from progressive rock such as Robert Fripp and Steve Howe.

Solo Guitar Vol. 1 – The Brooklyn Years was inspired by Sera’s live shows, which combines his muscular acoustic work with the daring improvisations that have impressed many concert-goers in Kings County, a/k/a Brooklyn.

As on Reality Of The Fantasy, the sound of Solo Guitar Vol. 1 – The Brooklyn Years works best when listened to as a total listening experience. There are standout tracks, most notably the driving sound of “Lights In The Sky” and “Lights In The Sky Pt. 2”, tracks which combines the best elements of Sera’s dreamlike approach to the guitar with some powerhouse guitar playing.

Somwhere between the rustic Windham Hill sound and instrumental rock groups like Explosions In The Sky, Solo Guitar Vol. 1 – The Brooklyn Years is one of the finest ambient, improvisational acoustic guitar albums of the decade.
